To stretch or not to stretch?
You should stretch! ...but you shouldn’t stretch. Use foam roller! ...and don’t use foam roller. You need to lift heavy! ...but actually you shouldn’t lift. Do yoga instead. Do yin yoga! ...but do vinyasa. Go vegan but eat more meat. Eat more and eat less. Squat ass to the grass but don’t because your knees will explode.
Opinions that you’re being flooded with daily sound a bit like the latest statement of “stay at home but go outside”.
The thing is, there is no right and wrong (in most cases). It’s all about about CONTEXT.
One man’s medicine is another man’s poison. This applies to all things movement as well. Some might need to work under load, some might need to back off and slow down. Some can go straight into warm up sets, some will have to spend some time mobilising.
Imagine you’re a vegan with nut allergy and you start eating peanut butter just because you heard it’s a good source of protein. It will clearly not end well. It doesn’t make peanut butter bad, it just makes it bad for you. It’s exactly the same with different activities. Not everything will suit your lifestyle, health needs, current situation. This may also change with time. Just because right now what you need is heavy resistance training doesn't mean at some point your life will be so busy that to balance it out your healthy activity of choice should be Tai Chi.
If you lock yourself in dogmas you’re missing out on so many opportunities and getting back on track will take much longer. Keep an open mind and find what works for you. Just make sure it really works for you and not just for your Ego.
